First Grade Newsletter

January 26, 2010

Dear Parents:

There are many exciting events and activities planned for February. We are looking forward to celebrating the activities below with the children.

Catholic Schools Week – Saturday, Jan 30 – Friday, Feb. 5

Below is an outline of direct involvement by the first grade class. For more details regarding Catholic Schools week, please consult the informative list sent to school families on Monday, January 25 via e-mail.

Saturday, Jan. 30:

School children are invited to wear their uniforms to 5:30 p.m. mass. Children who attend mass in their uniforms will have a non-uniform day later in the school year.

Sunday, Jan. 31: 

School children are invited to wear their uniforms to 8:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. mass. Children who attend mass in their uniforms will have a non-uniform day later in the school year.

Monday, Feb. 1:

Community Appreciation Day

Wednesday, Feb. 3: 

Student Appreciation Day – Children are invited to wear their pajamas to school on this day! Naturally, pillows, stuffed animals, and a favorite book can be brought as well. The students will be treated to a special morning snack provided by the room moms. Muffins and fruit are on the menu.  

 

Thursday, Feb. 4:

Parent Appreciation Day

Friday, Feb. 5:

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day as well as an all school mass celebrated at 9:00 a.m.  - The first grade class is planning the mass with their fifth grade buddies. Children are invited to bring canned food items to school to be offered at church for the food bank. Also, we thank you for your help creating the baskets for our teachers and staff. Again, please note that any items you are contributing to the four baskets our class is giving to Mrs. Jensen, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Gayda, or Mrs. McDonald should be brought to the Parish Hall on Friday morning between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m.

 

Other dates of interest in February

 

Thursday, February 10 – First grade students will create Valentine’s Day envelopes for the many cards they will receive! They will sew paper plates together and decorate the plates with die-cut hearts. All materials will be supplied.

 

Friday, February 11 – The first graders are planning the President’s Day Assembly. The time of the assembly is yet to be determined and more information will follow. A Valentine’s Day Party will be held in the classroom at 2:15 p.m. The children will exchange valentines, enjoy a special valentine snack, and have a craft activity.

 

Friday, February 12 – Tuesday, Feb 16 – February Vacation – Enjoy!!

 

Wednesday, February 17 - Ash Wednesday – The school will bury the Alleluia. More details to follow regarding the time of this tradition.

 

 

 

Friday, February 19 – The first grade celebrates 100 Day! Parents are invited to join the class for this celebration. Please join your child as he/she creates a hat displaying 100 items. There will also be a literature activity and other counting exercises for those students who complete their hats.
