Principal's Message
Welcome to St. Nicholas!

A Message from the Principal

Welcome to our website! As you take a look around at everything that St. Nicholas Catholic School has to offer, I am sure you will see why I believe strongly that St. Nicholas is a school where children and young people can experience learning and living fully integrated in the light of faith.

Overlooking beautiful Gig Harbor, St. Nicholas Catholic School is a relatively new school within the Archdiocese of Seattle. Established in 1995 as an independent Catholic school, St. Nicholas has a current enrollment of 150 students in grades PreK (4) - 8. There is one class per grade in all grades. Class size ranges with twenty-one students being the maximum enrollment.  Students come to St. Nicholas from both Pierce and Kitsap County.  Over 90% of school families are members of St. Nicholas Parish but we welcome students of all faiths!

To provide students with the opportunities to serve others in the community, our middle school students are required to fulfill monthly volunteer hour commitments to charitable causes. All students participate in monthly all-school liturgies and attend daily Mass at least once a week with their classmates. Students in grades five through eight function as altar servers at all-school liturgies and Sunday Mass.

In addition to instruction in core subjects, St. Nicholas School offers technology, physical education, music, and Spanish classes. Extracurricular activities range from CYO sports to cooking club. Our students consistenly excel on standardized tests including the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) and Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). We do not teach to these tests, we learn from them.

Gig Harbor is a rapidly-growing community that draws families who are attracted to the area for its scenic beauty and outstanding quality of life. Please call the school office to arrange a tour of the school if you are relocating to Gig Harbor or if you are in the area and looking for education alternatives.

Welcome!

Michael Sweeney, Principal
