Welcome to the St. Nicholas Pre-Kindergarten Program!
Teacher, Mary Balmer, holds a BA from the University of Hawaii and a Teaching Certificate from Seattle University. She worked for the YMCA, the Hawaii Department of Education, Sylvan Learning Center, and the Seattle School District. She taught Kindergarten Religious Education at St. Nicholas Church from 2008-2013 and has been the Preschool Teacher at St. Nicholas Catholic School since 2012. She has a deep love for the Catholic Faith and teaching it is a priority of hers.
Mrs. Balmer has a passion for preparing children for a lifetime of learning. She strives to create a rich environment to nurture a child’s natural curiosity and excitement for learning, while helping to build a strong foundation of faith and academic success. She is excited to work with parents to make their child’s introduction to schooling both positive and successful. She lives in Gig Harbor with her husband David and their two sons, Jacob and Michael, both of whom attend St. Nicholas School.
Pre-Kindergarten aide, Mrs. McDonald, is a native of Vaughn, WA and a graduate of Bellarmine Preparatory in Tacoma. She graduated from Western Washington University where she met her husband, Perry. They married at St. Charles Borromeo and have two children. Their son is a St. Nicholas graduate and currently attends Bellarmine Prep. Their daughter still attends St. Nicholas and was a part of the first pre-K class at this wonderful school! Mrs. McDonald feels it is an honor and a joy to be in the classroom as the Pre-K aide and is passionate about Catholic Education.
The Pre-K program uses hands-on curriculum that draws from scientifically-based research about how to help children develop their language abilities, increase their knowledge and learn early reading and math skills, all in a nurturing and faith-filled environment.
